Colton Herta has faced a scathing assessment regarding his Formula 1 prospects from former Grand Prix driver Ralf Schumacher, who questioned the American's struggles in the junior categories.

Friday running at Interlagos appeared successful on paper for Herta as he stepped in for Sergio Perez during opening practice for the Cadillac F1 Team. Completing 24 laps allowed the American to secure the final super licence points required to race in Formula 1.
However, Schumacher dismissed any notion that Herta deserves a full-time race seat alongside Perez for the upcoming campaign. The Sky Germany pundit did not hold back his frustration regarding the team's driver evaluation process.

"Only if Easter and Christmas fall on the same day. Seriously, it is pointless. He is just burning fuel, to borrow a phrase from Franz Tost. I do not even know what the point of it is. You might as well put someone else in the car, give some young drivers a chance," Schumacher stated firmly.
Schumacher specifically highlighted Herta's underwhelming Formula 2 campaign, noting that the results do not justify a promotion to the pinnacle of motorsport. Meanwhile, the second seat at Cadillac remains a major talking point as decisions regarding Valtteri Bottas and other contenders such as Leonardo Fornaroli loom large.

The ongoing debate highlights the intense pressure surrounding rookie evaluations and team roster strategies as the grid prepares for the final stretch of the season.
