The intense championship battle in the premier class delivered another talking point as Jorge Martin openly discussed the unique challenges of fighting for position against his arch-rival. The Spaniard admitted that executing a clean pass on the eight-time world champion requires a completely different level of precision compared to other riders on the grid.
Speaking to the media following a hard-fought performance, the Aprilia star detailed how the factory Ducati rider's racecraft makes overtaking an exceptionally difficult task due to an almost guaranteed counter-attack.
"Yes, I saw that Marc was dealing with a minor issue and I immediately told myself that this was now or never, I had to try," Martin explained, reflecting on the crucial moment during the sprint race while managing his physical recovery.
"However, overtaking Marc is simply not the same as passing anyone else. With other riders you might make a move and pull away, but whenever you pass Marc, he always counter-attacks. I tried to hold on until the end and wait for a mistake, but it didn't happen," the title contender added.
The remarkable effort showcased by the reigning standout proved that tactical tire choices, particularly opting for the soft compound against initial expectations, successfully salvaged crucial championship points despite enduring severe physical discomfort throughout the race weekend.
"Just being here and competing at this level after everything that happened is already a victory for me. The recovery work paid off, and we will keep fighting until the very end," he concluded.
