Marc Marquez successfully secured pole position in a rain-affected qualifying session for the Australian Grand Prix at the Phillip Island circuit, despite suffering an early crash. The factory Ducati rider once again underlined his wet-weather prowess by posting a best lap time of 1m34.203s in the closing minutes of Q2, leaving the rest of the field trailing in challenging conditions.
The qualifying hour at Phillip Island was already dampened by overnight showers, but a fresh bout of rain at the start of Q2 further complicated matters for the riders. Conditions claimed Marquez as an early victim when he crashed at Turn 4 just three minutes into the session without a lap time on the board. However, the nine-time world champion managed to bring his hobbled machine back to the paddock via the service lane and hopped straight onto his second bike to head back out.
Upon returning to the track, the Spanish rider immediately jumped to the top of the timesheets, edging out early pacesetter Johann Zarco. As the final runs commenced, Zarco briefly reclaimed the top spot before Marquez unleashed a blistering final lap to secure his fourth pole of the season by a massive 1.493s margin over his brother Alex Marquez.

Zarco held on to third place to claim a front row start for Honda, while championship leader Jorge Martin could only manage fourth place as the top Aprilia representative. Home hero Jack Miller rounded out the top five ahead of Raul Fernandez, Pedro Acosta, and Fabio di Giannantonio. Meanwhile, riders like Marco Bezzecchi and Francesco Bagnaia struggled to match the pace in the tricky wet conditions.
As reported by Motorsport.com, Marquez's ability to bounce back instantly from adversity and maximize grip on the damp asphalt proved decisive in mastering the treacherous Phillip Island layout and dominating the qualifying battle.
