Max Verstappen claimed his 14th Formula 1 sprint race victory in a dramatic and damp encounter at the Singapore Grand Prix, marking the first time the venue has ever hosted the sprint weekend format.
The Red Bull star fought through the tricky conditions to defeat Lewis Hamilton in the 20-lap dash. With this impressive triumph, Verstappen has leapfrogged reigning world champion Lando Norris to take over fifth place in the drivers' standings.
However, the major championship drama unfolded when George Russell crashed out from the lead on just the second lap. The costly mistake threw away eight crucial points and squandered a golden opportunity to close the gap to his Mercedes teammate.

Meanwhile, Andrea Kimi Antonelli capitalized by claiming five points for fourth place following a chaotic last-lap collision between the McLaren pair. The 20-year-old Italian has now extended his championship lead to 89 points heading into Sunday's main grand prix.
Further down the order, Hamilton has closed to within 15 points of second-placed Russell, while Red Bull has cut the deficit to third-placed McLaren down to just 11 points in the constructors' battle. Read our in-depth analysis and check the latest standings here.
