A stunning performance unfolded at the iconic Mount Panorama circuit as Zach Bates delivered a sensational lap time to secure the front-row grid position. Having shocked the Supercars paddock a day earlier, the talented youngster from Matt Stone Racing proved his blistering pace was no fluke by dominating the decisive shootout.

Piloting the #10 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, the rising star flew around the asphalt to record a phenomenal time of 2m04.2062s. That impressive effort shattered the ambitions of Brodie Kostecki, who was denied a record fourth straight pole position by a narrow margin of 0.2850 seconds.

The pit lane erupted into applause as the youngster returned to the garage following his breathtaking run, with rival team members emerging to openly applaud the incredible milestone achieved by the up-and-coming outfit.

Reflecting on his maiden pole position in the championship, an ecstatic driver shared his disbelief and immense pride in the team's relentless effort throughout the race weekend. "I can’t believe it, honestly. I had a good feeling throughout the week but I didn’t think the thing could go this fast," he stated.

"It’s a credit to everyone. Incredible. We’re a young, up-and-coming team, it’s very cool to get this done. Brodie laid down an absolute heaterg it was a good carrot to chase. There’s been so many fast guys, I can’t believe it," he continued.

Despite falling short of another milestone, the runner-up graciously praised the sensational performance delivered by his young competitor. "Congratulations to Zach Bates. That’s truly amazing, well done to the Matt Stone crew," he remarked.

"I love a good underdog story. I’ve been a part of one in the past so I’m super happy for those guys. We lasted a lot longer on the top than I thought we would. I’m just proud of the team and I’m looking forward to tomorrow," he concluded ahead of the main endurance race.
