Marc Marquez showcased his exceptional wet-weather prowess by claiming pole position at the Australian Grand Prix following an early crash in a chaotic qualifying session. The factory Ducati rider successfully mastered the tricky wet conditions at Phillip Island after overnight showers were compounded by fresh rain at the start of Qualifying 2.
Just three minutes into the session, Marquez became the first major victim of the deteriorating track, crashing his machine at Turn 4 without a lap time on the board. However, the nine-time world champion swiftly recovered his damaged bike via the service lane, hopped onto his secondary machine, and immediately headed back out to salvage his grid position.
Upon returning to the track, the Spaniard instantly surged to the top of the timesheets. As the final runs commenced, Lcr Honda contender Johann Zarco briefly snatched provisional pole with a blistering effort. Ultimately, however, no competitor could match the staggering pace delivered by Marquez in the dying seconds of the session.

Marquez posted a stellar benchmark of 1m34.203s aboard the factory Ducati, leaving his rivals trailing in his wake. His brother and Gresini teammate, Alex Marquez, secured second place in the closing stages to complete a stunning 1-2 lockout for Ducati, finishing 1.493s adrift of the pacesetter.
Zarco held on to claim third place and secure a front-row start for Honda, while championship leader Jorge Martin fought through the tricky conditions to salvage fourth place as the top Aprilia representative ahead of local hero Jack Miller.
