Lewis Hamilton Explains Singapore Strategy Blunder and Ferrari Mindset

Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has finally opened up about the crucial strategic error that shook his garage during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend. Speaking during the official FIA press conference ahead of the Austin race weekend, the British driver openly admitted that his personal decision not to pit during the Virtual Safety Car period turned out to be a major gamble that cost valuable championship points.

The incident at Marina Bay unfolded when Lewis Hamilton, starting from third on the grid, attempted to take an alternative route to chase victory. Rather than following the conventional tactical path used by his teammate Charles Leclerc, the veteran driver chose to stay out on track in search of different options, a split-second decision he almost immediately realized was a mistake as his tires dropped off.

'First of all I think you learn from these experiences, and it is rare for me to find myself in that situation. The following days were not really the best, but you learn. From third on the grid I was looking for a way to win and if possible I always try to do something different. And I wanted to adopt a different strategy, not the same as Charles, because otherwise we would have been one behind the other,' Lewis Hamilton told reporters.

The fallout from the tactical blunder saw his position drop from a potential second place all the way down to a sixth-place finish. Lewis Hamilton took full responsibility for the points lost by the Maranello outfit, emphasizing that internal discussions with engineers have only grown stronger through thorough post-race evaluations.

'We've had good conversations behind the scenes on how to improve together and how to collaborate better. Honestly, I believe that my job, rather than just doing what has always been done, is to continuously question the team and myself. Even constantly challenging customs. And that is precisely how, ultimately, I got to where I am,' he concluded.
