Lewis Hamilton has credited Mercedes for its exceptional approach with Andrea Kimi Antonelli, as the young Italian stands on the verge of a historic Formula 1 world title at the United States Grand Prix. The 20-year-old arrives at the Circuit of the Americas on the cusp of etching his name into the history books as the youngest-ever F1 World Champion.
Antonelli has enjoyed a phenomenal sophomore campaign with the German manufacturer, securing an impressive eight Grand Prix victories so far in 2026. Reflecting on Antonelli's trajectory at his former team, Hamilton believes that a massive share of the credit belongs to the leadership structure, specifically Toto Wolff for cultivating an environment where the young charger could fully extract his immense potential.
Speaking to Motorsport Week regarding Wolff's pivotal involvement in Antonelli's success, Hamilton emphasized the excellence of the team boss's management style. Toto is exceptional at what he does, the environment he creates, and the calibre of people he surrounds himself with. The British driver noted that he experienced a remarkably similar environment when he first arrived at Mercedes, as well as during his formative years with McLaren.

Drawing parallels to his own explosive entry into the sport, Hamilton sees distinct similarities between his early years and the mature approach Antonelli has displayed throughout this season. He stressed that achieving such greatness is never the result of a single individual's effort alone, but rather the perfect alignment of puzzle pieces surrounding and supporting the talent. Having benefited from such a robust support system in the past, Hamilton expressed delight in seeing the youngster thrive under identical conditions.
The championship equation is now clear, with Antonelli able to clinch the 2026 F1 World Championship in Austin if he takes victory, alongside teammate George Russell finishing ninth or lower and Hamilton crossing the checkered flag no higher than fifth. The paddock at COTA braces for what could be a monumental changing of the guard.
