The future of Danilo Petrucci in the WorldSBK paddock ahead of the 2027 season faces a critical turning point following his confirmed departure from the factory BMW squad. The experienced Italian rider must vacate his seat to make room for former MotoGP rider Brad Binder, who transitions from KTM following a difficult, injury-plagued campaign for Petrucci.

BMW's racing division actively sought to keep the veteran on board by facilitating talks with the OrangeCat Racing squad competing in the MotoAmerica Superbike Championship. Back in mid-September, the seasoned racer traveled to Austin, Texas, spending several days with the team and completing around 30 laps on a stock specification machine during an organized track day.

Despite the initial positive momentum, a formal contract failed to materialize as the team ultimately decided to sign a younger prospect to partner alongside Sean Dylan Kelly for upcoming challenges. A secondary European option briefly emerged with the independent Go Eleven Ducati outfit, which planned to expand into a two-rider lineup for 2027.

However, discussions broke down after the team realized that specific demands regarding personnel and operational procedures could not be met during their initial transition year with a dual-bike garage. Consequently, that vacant seat remains targeted by Italian championship contender Alessandro Delbianco and World Supersport champion Albert Arenas.

With doors closing in Europe, a final viable path has opened through contact from the Attack Performance Progressive Yamaha squad in North America. Representatives for the rider have labeled this potential switch as a very promising and realistic avenue to continue competing at a professional level.
