Rising Brazilian star Rafael Camara has officially confirmed the race number he will carry when he makes his highly anticipated step up to Formula 1 in 2027. The standout Formula 2 championship contender has secured a multi-year deal to race for the Haas squad, marking a monumental milestone in his burgeoning single-seater career.
Camara’s promotion to the pinnacle of motorsport comes on the back of a stellar junior career trajectory. After claiming a dominant Formula 3 title, the Ferrari Academy driver has continued to impress in Formula 2 this season, currently leading the standings while driving for Invicta Racing. His incredible pace and race craft convinced the Banbury-based outfit to secure his signature for the upcoming regulatory era.
However, securing his preferred identification number on the Formula 1 grid presented a minor hurdle. His first-choice race number was the number 5, but that digit was already claimed by fellow Brazilian and Audi driver Gabriel Bortoleto. Consequently, the 21-year-old rookie had to explore alternative options to adorn his car throughout his premier class career.

Speaking to media outlets, including Motorsport Week, following the announcement of his multi-year agreement, the young charger explained the clever calculation behind his backup choice. The number 50 was ultimately chosen due to a direct and sentimental connection to his birth date, creating a neat numerical homage.
"Yes, so I think we’ll be using the 50," he stated. "Obviously, the first option would be 5 but obviously, Gabi is using that. But yeah, it’s 50 because basically, my birthday is 5-5-05. I spoke with my dad and he said it’s 50. It makes sense with the birthday date!"
With his race number now locked in, attention turns toward his intensive preparations for the upcoming debut campaign. He is widely expected to partner Oliver Bearman within the American-owned outfit, setting the stage for an exciting new chapter for both the team and the sport's newest arrival.
