Organizing committee chairman Heikki Poranen has confirmed that discussions are already underway to bring World Rally Championship teams back to the Arctic Lapland Rally for the upcoming 2027 edition. The iconic snow event based in Rovaniemi has historically served as an essential testing ground for teams preparing for the grueling winter conditions of the Scandinavian rounds.
The revamped itinerary kicks off on Thursday with the traditional shakedown and a ceremonial start in central Rovaniemi at Lordi Square. Competitive action begins immediately with the familiar Aittajarvi test, uniquely run in the reverse direction compared to the previous two editions to catch seasoned competitors off guard.
Friday's leg challenges drivers with six demanding stages covering nearly 100 competitive kilometres, followed by another six stages spanning over 115 kilometres on Saturday. The itinerary features the iconic Ristilampi forest stage stretching over 30 kilometres, incorporating a 9,5-kilometre section driven in this specific direction for the very first time this decade.

Adding higher stakes to the finale, the event concludes with the first-ever Power Stage in the history of the Finnish Rally Championship at Mantyvaara, offering crucial bonus points to the top five fastest crews. Poranen highlighted the proven pathway from Rovaniemi to world championship glory, noting how Elfyn Evans tested on these Arctic stages before winning Rally Sweden and ultimately capturing the world title.
With major technological shifts incoming for the top-class WRC machinery, factory squads are evaluating testing opportunities in Lapland. Toyota has regularly utilized the event in the past, with stars like Kalle Rovanpera frequently entering the entry list. Furthermore, championship contenders will be greeted by an enhanced points multiplier of 1.5 for this high-profile winter classic.
