Fabio Schwarz and co-driver Axel Coronado were taken to hospital following a terrifying crash on SS2 Tula-Erula at Rally Japan, the final round of the 2025 WRC season. The high jump caused their Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 to land heavily, forcing them to retire from the event.

Schwarz, competing in the WRC2 category, launched his car into the air on Friday morning's opening stage. The hard landing left both men with injuries. "Following a landing after a jump on SS2 Tula-Erula, we had a hard compression. I'm experiencing back pain, while Axel is experiencing pain in his left foot and back," Schwarz posted on Instagram. "We are both heading to hospital for further medical checks. Thank you to everyone for the support and messages. We'll keep you updated when we know more."

The incident is a major blow for Schwarz, son of German rally legend Armin Schwarz, who made his WRC debut in 2023. This year, he has only started two WRC rounds, and Japan was meant to be a chance to showcase his progress. However, fate had other plans.

The impact of this crash is not only felt by Schwarz but also by his team and the WRC2 competition. With Schwarz out, the category loses one of its promising young drivers. Now, the main focus is on the recovery of both individuals.

Rally Japan itself is a crucial season finale, with championship titles still up for grabs. Although this incident occurred early in the rally, it serves as a reminder of the ever-present risks in rallying. All eyes are now on the condition of Schwarz and Coronado, hoping for their speedy recovery.
