Dramatic scenes unfolded during the MotoGP Qatar Tissot Sprint at the Lusail International Circuit, where a horrific multi-rider incident involving Francesco Bagnaia and Fermin Aldeguer forced race control to deploy the red flag. The terrifying crash on the opening lap's final corner was witnessed firsthand by Pedro Acosta from his front-row grid slot.
The collision occurred when Aldeguer attempted an aggressive overtaking maneuver on Acosta as the pack approached the final turn. A slight miscalculation in braking metrics caused Aldeguer's machine to clip Bagnaia's rear wheel, launching the Italian rider into the air and resulting in broken metatarsals in his foot.
Speaking after the Sprint, Acosta admitted he had a front-row seat to the terrifying impact. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider noted that it had been a very long time since he witnessed such a severe accident up close within the premier class.

"I saw it up close, and it has been a long time since I have seen such a bad crash up close in MotoGP. I hope Pecco is okay, because it was a nasty hit, and that he can recover quickly," Acosta stated. He added that given the sheer violence of the impact, Bagnaia actually got off remarkably lightly.
Reflecting on Aldeguer's involvement, Acosta defended his fellow Spaniard, who was returning to action after breaking his hand in Indonesia. He explained that misjudging aerodynamic behavior and bike limits after a lengthy absence is a common hurdle for any rider.
Meanwhile, Acosta managed a solid recovery to finish sixth after struggling during Friday's practice sessions. However, he noted difficulties in getting his tyres up to optimal working temperatures following the restart procedure dictated by the red flag.
