Pedro Acosta witnessed the harrowing crash between Francesco Bagnaia and Fermin Aldeguer during the MotoGP Qatar Sprint at the Lusail Circuit. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider was positioned right between the duo as they approached the final corner on the opening lap. Acosta stated that it was one of the most frightening incidents he has seen up close in his MotoGP career.
The incident occurred when Aldeguer attempted an aggressive overtake, only to miscalculate the distance and collide with the rear wheel of the Italian's bike. The impact sent the two-time world champion flying, resulting in two broken metatarsals. A red flag was immediately deployed to halt the race and allow for medical intervention.
Reflecting on the situation, Acosta expressed his sympathy for the rider he is slated to replace next season. "I saw it up close. It has been a long time since I have seen such a bad crash up close in MotoGP. I hope Pecco is okay, because it was a nasty hit, and that he can recover quickly," Acosta told GPOne.

Furthermore, he defended Aldeguer, who was making his first appearance since breaking his hand in Indonesia. Acosta noted the inherent difficulty of returning to the complex aerodynamics of a MotoGP bike after a long hiatus. "It was a slightly premature and fairly aggressive pass, but I also understand Fermin's position. It is not easy to get used to a MotoGP bike again after so many races, especially with how the aerodynamics affect the bike's behavior. Anyone can make a mistake," he explained.
Regarding his own race, Acosta finished sixth but admitted that he struggled to find grip during the restart. He noted that the issue was similar to his experience at the Catalunya round earlier this year. He suggested that the team's ultra-conservative approach to tyre pressures might have hampered his pace during the race resumption.
"We need to try to find the right balance. After all the issues we have had due to low pressure, we decided to play it safe and take no risks at all, but that proved to be detrimental to our rhythm," he concluded. The KTM technical team is now expected to analyze the data to ensure improved performance for the upcoming rounds.
