The future of Colton Herta in Grand Prix racing has sparked intense debate within the paddock. Although the American driver has officially secured the 40 Super Licence points required to race in F1, harsh criticism came from former racing driver Ralf Schumacher, who firmly dismissed the prospect of seeing him secure a full-time seat with the Cadillac squad.

Herta's aspirations for a promotion received renewed attention after he took to the track during the opening practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Stepping in for Sergio Perez to complete over 24 laps, the reserve driver successfully crossed the threshold to 40 Super Licence points, fulfilling the strict administrative requirement to compete at the pinnacle of motorsport.

When asked about his ambitions to grab a permanent race seat, Herta admitted that reaching the grid remains his ultimate goal. "That is of course my goal. That's why I'm here and that's why I'm giving so much for it. I hope that it happens," Herta told reporters in Brazil regarding his long-term career target.

However, Schumacher offered a scathing assessment of Herta's readiness. Speaking as a pundit, the German expert argued that giving the American continuous track time serves little competitive purpose given his struggles to adapt in European junior single-seater categories.

"Only if Easter and Christmas fall on the same day. No, honestly, it's pointless. He's just burning fuel, as Franz Tost would say. I don't even know what the point is. You could put other people, young people, in the car instead. Herta was really, really bad in Formula 2. For me, he hasn't earned this at all," Schumacher insisted.

Schumacher pointed out that underwhelming results in feeder series should disqualify drivers from top-tier promotions, suggesting that talents like Leonardo Fornaroli hold a much stronger claim to a future F1 seat based on championship pedigree.
