Fabio Di Giannantonio Tops Qatar MotoGP Warm Up Amid Paddock Injury Drama

The final warm-up session ahead of the main grand prix at the Lusail International Circuit delivered high drama as Fabio Di Giannantonio clinched the fastest lap time. The premier class riders hit the desert asphalt for this crucial final opportunity to dial in their bike setups. However, the paddock atmosphere remained subdued following a wave of injuries and logistical hurdles that significantly depleted the starting grid throughout the race weekend.

The physical toll on the riders became a major talking point heading into Sunday's action. Following the Malaysian round, Alex Marquez opted to undergo right shoulder surgery to fix lingering issues. Meanwhile, Yamaha withdrew from the Qatar round due to ongoing geopolitical complications in the Middle East. Ducati also suffered a massive blow when Pecco Bagnaia sustained right foot fractures in a heavy crash with Fermin Aldeguer during the Sprint Race, forcing him to spend the night in the hospital before returning to Italy.

As the pit lane exit light turned green, the majority of the field immediately headed out onto the track. Jorge Martin and Marc Marquez opted for a more patient approach, lingering inside their respective garages during the opening minutes. Martin, who has required assistance putting on his right glove all weekend, eventually headed out, while Marquez waited slightly longer before joining the track action under the floodlights.

Action on the circuit heated up quickly as riders traded fast sectors. Enea Bastianini showed formidable pace aboard his KTM machine, while mechanical gremlins forced both Jake Dixon and Diogo Moreira to pull over after their bikes emitted thick white smoke. Amidst a heart-stopping moment where Martin narrowly saved a potential crash at Turn 5, the competitive intensity reached its peak as the clock ticked down to the final seconds.

When the checkered flag dropped, Di Giannantonio maintained his grip on the top spot with a blistering lap of 1:52.558, fending off fierce pressure from his rivals. Meanwhile, Marc Marquez steadily improved his pace to secure a hard-fought position inside the top five, setting the stage for a wildly unpredictable main race later in the day.
