Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Max Verstappen of Oracle Red Bull Racing has received strong backing from Formula 1 fans following his continued criticism of the new 2026 technical regulations.
According to a RacingNews365 poll, 78.26% of respondents agreed with Verstappen’s stance, viewing his comments as a fair reflection of concerns surrounding the current regulatory direction. The 2026 ruleset, which places a greater emphasis on energy management, has significantly altered the dynamics of racing compared to previous seasons.
Verstappen has been vocal since pre-season testing, describing the regulations as “anti-racing” and comparing them to “Formula E on steroids.” His criticism intensified after the Australian Grand Prix, where he finished sixth, and continued following his retirement in China due to an ERS coolant leak.

However, 21.74% of poll respondents disagreed with Verstappen’s approach, suggesting that the Dutch driver should focus more on improving the performance and reliability of his car following a mixed start to the season.
From a technical perspective, the 2026 regulations introduce a more balanced distribution between internal combustion and hybrid energy systems, increasing the strategic importance of energy deployment throughout a race. This shift has influenced driving styles, overtaking opportunities, and overall race flow, forming the basis of the criticism from several drivers.
The situation highlights a broader transition phase for Formula 1, where technological evolution must be balanced against the core principles of racing.
