Aston Martin Mourns the Passing of Mick Fern

Aston Martin has paid tribute to team member Mick Fern, affectionately known as Biscuit, after he passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends.

Fern spent 35 years working in the Formula 1 paddock and was involved with the Silverstone-based operation across several periods from 1999, when the team was still competing as Jordan. He most recently rejoined in 2015 and became a highly respected member of the F1 community.

As a tyre technician, Fern was responsible for the tyres on one side of the Aston Martin garage during race weekends. Last season, he worked on Lance Stroll’s side of the team and featured in coverage offering an inside look at the garage operation.

Aston Martin also featured Fern alongside colleague Jim Duffy in 2021 through a behind-the-scenes account of a Formula 1 tyre’s journey across a grand prix weekend. He was regarded as one of the team’s biggest characters, known for his friendliness, willingness to support colleagues and readiness to share his knowledge with garage guests.

“The thoughts of the entire team and F1 community are with the family and friends of our teammate, Mick Fern, affectionately known to so many of us as Biscuit, who passed away peacefully today,” Aston Martin said in a social media statement.

“Biscuit was a true stalwart who showed loyalty and support to all those around him. He welcomed everyone with open arms and made our travelling world feel more like home.”

“Biscuit spent 35 years in the paddock, and he was respected by all who worked with him. We are all so grateful for our time together and will dearly miss his warmth and humour,” the team added.

Fern’s passing leaves Aston Martin and the wider Formula 1 community in mourning after more than three decades of service as a technician, colleague and much-loved paddock figure.
