Marc Marquez successfully secured pole position for the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island after overcoming an early crash during a rain-affected qualifying session. The multi-time champion suffered a fall on his opening flying lap at the Turn 4 Miller hairpin as fresh rain arrived on the slowly drying asphalt. With no lap time on the board, the championship contender faced a precarious moment in his ongoing title fight.

Showing immense resilience, Marquez returned to the paddock via the service road, walked straight through the Ducati garage, and immediately jumped onto his spare motorcycle. This swift tactical pivot paid off as he shot straight to the top of the timesheets on his first complete flying lap. Although Johann Zarco briefly snatched the top spot, Marquez responded with a stunning 1m 34.203s lap to seal pole position by an impressive margin of nearly 1.5 seconds.

The competitive hierarchy was further solidified as younger brother Alex Marquez carved his way through to complete a Ducati one-two finish, ending the session 1.493s behind. Zarco capped off a stellar performance for LCR Honda to round out the front row. Meanwhile, championship leader Jorge Martin salvaged fourth place on the grid.

Home hero Jack Miller secured fifth position for Pramac Yamaha, with defending event winner Raul Fernandez completing the second row for Trackhouse Aprilia. Further down the order, Pedro Acosta managed seventh for KTM, ahead of Fabio di Giannantonio and Martin's factory teammate Marco Bezzecchi, who struggled to replicate his dry practice pace in the wet.

All eyes now turn to the afternoon's Sprint race with further weather disruptions forecasted for the remainder of the weekend. Marquez starts the Sprint just two points behind Martin in the standings and stands poised to reclaim the championship lead with a victory.
