MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Luca Marini of Repsol Honda Team has outlined his philosophical approach to MotoGP racing in 2026, emphasizing instinct as the decisive factor over pure rationality in high-level competition.

In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 28-year-old Italian described himself as a rider of contrasts: capable of reaching speeds above 350 km/h on a MotoGP machine while also finding calm in the quiet moments of daily life. Marini has also been named an ambassador for TRC, a project focused on combining sustainability and durability in next-generation workwear.

Marini rejected the common perception that MotoGP is purely driven by rational processes. While acknowledging the extensive physical, mental, and technical preparation required, he stressed that unpredictability remains central once the race begins.

“In reality, our sport is not as rational as people think. There is huge preparation—physical, mental, and technical—but when you race and need to be faster than others, rationality gives way to uncertainty,” Marini explained.

“Strategy is always there, but it can completely change. Being prepared for every possibility is fundamental.”

When discussing riding style, Marini made it clear that instinct plays a defining role at the elite level, outweighing any standardized or purely analytical approach.

“Instinct is fundamental. There is no universal formula—each rider prepares differently. Both aspects coexist, but instinct is what can truly make the difference,” he said.

He also reflected on the pace of life within MotoGP, where time itself becomes the ultimate benchmark of performance.

“It’s a fast-paced life, but today everything demands speed. The only thing truly faster than you is time—the stopwatch. You have to constantly try to beat it, even though it’s extremely difficult.”

Off the bike, Marini acknowledged that becoming a father has brought a significant personal transformation, though it has not altered his professional focus when racing.

“It changes you deeply as a man. But on the bike, I know my mind and body perfectly, and I’m able to put everything else aside. I feel the change more in my free time,” he said.

“I’m happy to have my daughter in the paddock, but when I’m working, I remain fully focused.”

Marini also underlined the importance of balancing career and personal life, particularly given the relatively short duration of a professional MotoGP career.

“I try to do a few things and do them well. I know my career is short, so I fully dedicate myself to training and my family,” he added.

“My moment of peace is at dawn, when I wake up early with my daughter, when everything is still quiet.”

As a role model outside motorsport, Marini pointed to Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner, highlighting his mindset and professional attitude as key inspirations.

In terms of personal identity, Marini emphasized authenticity as a core value, extending beyond racing into his everyday life and style.

“For me, elegance is an attitude, not just aesthetics. I like being authentic,” he stated.

Marini’s perspective reflects the evolving profile of MotoGP riders, where success is increasingly shaped not only by technical execution but also by psychological balance, adaptability, and personal identity. As the championship grows more complex, the integration of instinct, preparation, and mental clarity remains critical to sustaining competitiveness throughout the season.
