When the lights went out at Zandvoort, Andrea Kimi Antonelli didn't just add to his points tally. The young Mercedes driver secured second place at the Dutch Grand Prix, and more importantly, maintained his grip on the 2026 Formula 1 championship lead with an increasingly comfortable margin.

With 18 points from his runner-up finish, Andrea Kimi Antonelli now leads by 59 points over his nearest rival. However, the biggest threat now comes from within his own garage: George Russell has jumped to second in the standings, shifting the balance of power at the front.

Lewis Hamilton, who joined Scuderia Ferrari this season, had to settle for third place. Despite having the same points as Russell (183), the seven-time champion loses on countback due to having only one win compared to Russell's two.

Behind them, Lando Norris continues to impress with back-to-back victories before and after the summer break. That result moved him up to fourth, pushing Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen down to fifth and sixth respectively.

The midfield battle is no less intense. Oscar Piastri, Isack Hadjar, and Liam Lawson are still fighting for top points positions, while teams like Alpine, Haas, and Racing Bulls are showing significant progress in the second half of the season.

With 15 rounds remaining, Antonelli's lead is substantial, but Formula 1 dynamics can always change. Can Russell capitalize on momentum and close the gap? Or will Antonelli continue to surge and clinch his first world title?
