Red Bull Racing has confirmed that Isack Hadjar suffered a hairline fracture to his left wrist, an injury that forces him to sit out the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. The French driver picked up the injury during routine boxing training over the summer break, with the team deciding not to risk further damage this weekend.
The decision opened the door for Liam Lawson to return to the Red Bull seat, while Yuki Tsunoda was promoted to Racing Bulls as Lawson's replacement. This marks a significant moment for Tsunoda, who returns to the F1 grid after losing his regular seat earlier.
According to Sky Sports F1, Hadjar is expected to recover in time for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza on September 6. Journalist Craig Slater revealed that the injury was discovered the morning after training when Hadjar felt discomfort and sought medical advice.
"It's a slight injury, hairline crack. They consulted the team doctor and had a hand specialist involved. It's a precaution that he's not racing this weekend, to not risk things getting worse," Slater said during the Dutch GP coverage. "He will be here over the course of the race weekend. The expectation is with a fair wind, he should be back for Monza."
Interestingly, MotoGP legend Marc Marquez reportedly advised Hadjar not to rush his recovery, drawing from his own experience with wrist injuries. The advice serves as a reminder of the importance of patience during rehabilitation.
Hadjar was spotted in the Zandvoort paddock on Friday with his left hand covered, indicating his condition remains under close supervision. Meanwhile, Lawson admitted he learned of his promotion just hours before the announcement, turning his plans upside down in an instant.
