MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Jorge Martin and Aprilia Racing delivered a notable step forward during the official MotoGP Jerez test in 2026, following a challenging Spanish Grand Prix where rear grip limitations impacted overall race performance.

The Spaniard used the first in-season test of the year to evaluate a range of new components that had not been available during pre-season, after missing part of the winter programme due to surgery. The technical focus centred on improving corner entry behaviour and rear traction stability, two critical areas that influenced race pace and tyre management on Sunday.

Although Martin finished 11th on the timesheets, the position did not reflect the internal performance indicators monitored by the team. Aprilia’s evaluation prioritised rider feedback, consistency of lap execution, and the correlation between setup changes and on-track behaviour, rather than outright lap time.

“It was a really positive day for me, for my part of the team. We tried some parts and everything was super positive. I’m really happy with how the day went, even if there is always room for improvement,” Martin stated in an official release.

Analysis of the Spanish Grand Prix highlighted that the lack of rear grip experienced in race conditions was primarily linked to tyre behaviour rather than a fundamental imbalance of the bike. This was validated during the test, where Martin reported immediate improvements in feeling as soon as he returned to the track.

“We understood that the feeling from yesterday was due to the tyre, not the balance of the bike. Today, straight away, I felt really good, and every new item we put on the bike brought another step forward,” he added.

While Martin declined to specify the exact components tested, he confirmed gains in turning performance and rear grip, both of which are essential for maintaining competitive race pace over long stints. The next phase will involve adapting riding style to the updated package, ensuring consistent performance under varying conditions.

Meanwhile, team-mate Marco Bezzecchi continued to demonstrate strong form, finishing inside the top three during the test and maintaining his advantage in the championship standings over Martin. Competitive pace was also shown by Ai Ogura and Raul Fernandez from Trackhouse Racing, who secured the top two positions.

Aprilia also introduced an updated aerodynamic concept, including a revised front fairing tested by Bezzecchi, aimed at enhancing airflow efficiency and braking stability. With the championship gap tightening, the outcome of this test provides a critical platform for Martin to respond in the title fight as the MotoGP season progresses to its next phase.
