Fermin Aldeguer made his much-anticipated return to the championship following injuries in Australia and Malaysia, but his comeback at the Lusail International Circuit was overshadowed by a major collision. The young Spaniard tangled with factory rider Pecco Bagnaia during the chaotic Sprint race, forcing a red flag and leaving the Italian with multiple foot fractures.
The incident unfolded when Aldeguer sensed an overtaking opportunity coming out of a corner following a suboptimal start. His ambitious passing maneuver from the inside resulted in a clash with the rear wheel of the Ducati machine, triggering a high-speed tumble that brought an abrupt halt to the session and earned the Gresini rider a double long lap penalty.
Speaking to broadcasters after the race, the Spanish rider expressed profound remorse toward his rival and the entire team. "First of all, I want to sincerely apologize both to Pecco and the entire Ducati team," Aldeguer stated during media rounds.

Elaborating on the dynamics of the crash, he admitted to misjudging the braking phase. "We are certainly the last people who want to hurt anyone or see these things happen. I know my limitations; when I saw a window of opportunity, I had to take it. But after exiting turn 15 slightly wide, it became very difficult to slow the motorcycle down effectively," he explained.

Despite the severe consequences for his competitor, Aldeguer maintained that the physical impact itself was relatively minor. "The contact wasn't exceptionally massive, but hitting the rear wheel at that angle triggered a dramatic crash. It could have been much worse, so that is the most important takeaway for us today," he noted.
The subsequent double long lap penalty severely compromised his race trajectory after the restart. Nevertheless, by sticking with the medium compound tire, he managed to salvage an eleventh-place finish while gathering crucial telemetry data for Sunday's main Grand Prix.
Armed with valuable race pace data, the rookie is eager to turn the page and reset for tomorrow's showdown. Read our in-depth analysis and stay updated with the latest paddock news.
