A promising weekend for Francesco Bagnaia at the Lusail International Circuit came to a dramatic and painful halt during Saturday's action. Having shown strong pace by securing fourth in Friday practice and holding fifth in the race, the Italian rider became the victim of a high-speed collision in the final corner leading onto the main straight.
The incident was triggered when Fermin Aldeguer misjudged his braking zone, torpedoing into the back of Bagnaia's Ducati. The impact sent the machine disintegrating into countless pieces while the factory rider was launched violently through the air before slamming hard onto the asphalt, prompting an immediate red flag and swift intervention from trackside medical personnel.
MotoGP medical director Dr. Angel Charte provided an update following initial assessments at the circuit's medical center. "The first examinations performed on Francesco Bagnaia at the Lusail International Circuit medical center revealed two fractures in his right foot, affecting the fourth and fifth metatarsals," he stated. Bagnaia was subsequently transferred to a hospital in Doha for further diagnostic evaluations to determine if surgical intervention is necessary.

Consequently, the double world champion's Qatar Grand Prix weekend is officially over. Ducati insiders indicated that if surgeons advise an operation, Bagnaia will fly back to Italy immediately, provided further hospital checks reveal no additional hidden traumas alongside his severe body bruises.
From a championship standings perspective, the crash has minimal impact on his difficult campaign. He remains 24 points behind the sidelined Alex Marquez and holds a 37-point cushion over Enea Bastianini. With a weekend off before the paddock heads to Portimao, recovery remains the absolute priority.
