Saturday at the Lusail circuit brought encouraging news for Raul Fernandez as his physical condition showed significant improvement following recent finger issues. The Trackhouse MotoGP Team rider had even traveled back to Spain prior to the Qatar weekend to undergo extra sessions with his personal physiotherapist, which successfully allowed him to fight at a high level. That hard work paid off immediately when he secured a strong fourth place on the starting grid after a stellar qualifying performance. However, those positive vibes quickly evaporated once the Saturday afternoon sprint race came to an end under the desert lights.

Despite crossing the finish line in fourth position, the Spanish rider felt it was a massive missed opportunity to fight for major trophies. Complications began right after the race restart when his front ride-height device failed to disengage, causing his motorcycle to drag dangerously across the asphalt through the opening corners. He admitted that he was certain the system had been deactivated and remained baffled by what actually went wrong during those crucial opening moments. That unexpected mechanical hiccup immediately cost him precious seconds that proved impossible to recover as the race progressed.

The primary issue haunting the Madrid-born rider, however, centered around the acceleration phase of his machine exiting slow corners. He expressed incredible frustration, stating that fighting for podium positions under such technical limitations felt completely out of reach. According to his post-race remarks, it did not matter which manufacturer he was dueling against because he struggled for traction and acceleration versus Aprilia, Ducati, KTM, and Honda machines alike. Telemetry showed his bike was up to twelve kilometers per hour slower than the fastest machines out of corners, accumulating a deficit of up to three-tenths of a second per split.

This glaring weakness forced the young rider to push the envelope aggressively through every single corner just to make up time, only to watch it vanish entirely down the straightaways. Finding a slipstream behind competitors offered no meaningful relief from the severe acceleration handicap that plagued his race pace throughout the afternoon. Interestingly enough, this particular deficit did not severely damage his absolute top speed figures down the main straight of the Lusail International Circuit. Registering a peak speed of 351.7 kilometers per hour, he actually ranked among the bottom three riders in top speed alongside race winner Marc Marquez and podium finisher Fabio Di Giannantonio.

Looking ahead to Sunday's main grand prix, a vital mission awaits the Italian manufacturer's contingent in the ongoing constructors' championship battle. Following the desert sprint, the squad faces a thirteen-point gap to close down against their rivals from Bologna before the final stages of the season. Technical crews now face an overnight race against time to find viable solutions to cure the exit acceleration woes before the lights go out.
