The MotoGP world championship has introduced a stringent disciplinary framework that introduces serious sporting sanctions for riders who bypass mandatory promotional duties. Revealed confidentially to teams during the Australian Grand Prix weekend at Phillip Island, the updated regulations mark a major shift away from purely financial penalties toward concrete track penalties.

This decisive regulatory update follows a notable incident involving Marc Marquez at the Japanese Grand Prix in Motegi, where the Spanish star opted out of a scheduled Sunday morning karting promotional event, citing the need for physical recovery and absolute focus on the upcoming Grand Prix race.

Under the new International Road Racing Teams Association guidelines, strict promotional requirements encompass Thursday press conferences, pre-race fan activities, Sunday rider parades, autograph sessions, and the Hero Walk. Arriving late, departing early, or failing to complete the mandatory ten-minute attendance threshold will now officially constitute a rule breach.

The progressive penalty scale escalates from an official warning for a first infraction to substantial cash fines, reductions in practice session track time, and ultimately severe grid position penalties for repeated offenses. Notably, the FIM MotoGP Stewards led by Simon Crafar will now oversee these non-sporting infractions alongside their traditional on-track duties.

While exemptions remain in place for valid injuries, emergency medical treatments, or pre-approved team obligations, the new policy leaves no room for unauthorized absences. The organization aims to balance the commercial demands of the show with the rigorous schedules of elite Grand Prix competitors.
