Marco Bezzecchi kicked off the Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island by setting the fastest lap time on Friday, navigating through extremely challenging lateral wind conditions. The Aprilia factory rider topped the Practice session, showcasing very promising performance right from the opening day of track action.
Despite claiming the top spot, the Italian rider remained cautious regarding the remainder of the weekend, particularly with rain forecasted for the upcoming sessions. According to reports from collaborator Manuel Pecino, significant work still lies ahead for the team to fully understand tire behavior and longevity across different track conditions.
The opening day was also marked by an initial incident involving Alex Marquez during the final session, which resulted in a crash without major consequences. Addressing the moment, Bezzecchi explained that the severe wind made it difficult to avoid contact as he got too close, ultimately tearing off his fairing and sending him sliding into the grass.

Aside from on-track action, the riders held a private meeting to discuss matters concerning the Qatar round, though a unanimous consensus was not reached. Bezzecchi described the gathering as mature and professional, noting that riders exchanged views openly without friction despite the difficulty of aligning everyone's perspectives.
Looking ahead to the rest of the weekend at the notoriously unpredictable Phillip Island circuit, quick adaptation and meticulous preparation will be vital. With rain looming as a major question mark, every team must prepare to reset their setups for potential wet-weather racing.
