Gonzalez Loses Win, Salac Claims First Moto2 Victory at Silverstone

Silverstone witnessed one of the wildest dramas in Moto2 this season. Filip Salac finally broke his duck with a maiden Grand Prix victory, after a race that turned completely on the last lap. Meanwhile, championship leader Manu Gonzalez had to let go of a win that was within his grasp due to an early celebration.

Gonzalez was dominant throughout the race. Alongside Dani Holgado, they engaged in a fierce duel, trading places at Stowe and Vale. It all peaked when Gonzalez forced a spectacular block pass at Club corner, ensuring he led into the final lap. However, the euphoria made him lose focus—he raised his hand and slowed down too much, leaving Holgado, who was right behind him, with no time to avoid contact.

The impact was immediate. Gonzalez's exhaust was damaged, his performance dropped drastically, and he fell to 14th place. The win was almost his, but it slipped away. Meanwhile, Holgado nearly had a huge highside at Luffield on the final lap. He lost speed and eventually missed the podium, a heavy blow after battling at the front all race.

Amid the chaos, Salac emerged as a deserving winner. Starting from a modest position, he climbed steadily and took advantage of every opportunity. On the last lap, he passed Holgado and then held off Ivan Ortola's attack on the straight. This victory is a historic moment for the Czech rider and proof that consistency and patience can bring sweet results.

Behind them, Alex Escrig from Giovanni Cuzari's team had a stellar performance. He secured his first Moto2 podium, finishing third after capitalizing on Holgado's mistake. Meanwhile, Izan Guevara led early but lost momentum and had to settle for fourth.

Bad news came for Tony Arbolino. The Italian rider was impressive and even led at two-thirds of the race, before crashing at Vale while in second place. The incident clearly upset Fabio Quartararo, his friend and manager, as seen in the garage.

With this result, the Moto2 title fight is getting more interesting. Gonzalez still leads the standings, but Guevara has closed the gap. Meanwhile, Salac's maiden win signals that this championship is still wide open.
