Under the 5,000 floodlights of the Lusail International Circuit, the 2026 MotoGP World Championship battle reached a new fever pitch during Friday's Practice session. All eyes were on Jorge Martin, the Aprilia Racing title contender, who displayed incredible mental fortitude. Despite racing with a fractured right wrist sustained at Phillip Island two weeks ago, Martin managed to secure seventh place overall.
This result marks a drastic improvement from his performance in Sepang last week, where he languished at the bottom of the timesheets due to unbearable pain. In Qatar, Martin completed 19 laps—nearly a full Grand Prix distance—finishing just 0.6s behind session leader Fabio di Giannantonio. By breaking into the top 10, Martin has guaranteed his spot in Q2, a vital step in his mission to delay Marc Marquez's title celebrations.
"I’m very proud of my job today, I wish I had this feeling in Malaysia honestly, because I'm able to race," Martin told TNT Sports. He admitted that the adrenaline on track is the best medicine for his injury. "For sure I'm not fully recovered, but I feel much better. The pain is there, but with all the adrenaline I almost don't feel it. So, I'm really happy that I can race, and let's try to finish tomorrow the sprint."

Despite his competitive pace, telemetry data shows Martin is still struggling in Sector 1, where he ranked only 13th fastest. The Lusail circuit's demanding right-hand corners pose a significant physical test for his injured right wrist. Martin explained that he is losing time during rapid changes of direction and when reaching maximum lean angles on the bike.
On the other side of the Aprilia Racing garage, Marco Bezzecchi also impressed by securing a top-three spot, finishing just 0.350s ahead of Martin. This suggests the RS-GP has the potential to fight at the front in Lusail. However, the real challenge for Martin remains his physical endurance over a full race distance, as he needs to score at least eight points this weekend to keep the title race alive.
Meanwhile, Marc Marquez remains a formidable threat after securing second place in Practice, proving the Ducati Lenovo Team has a highly stable package for the desert track. With the asphalt often slippery due to desert sand at the start of sessions, tire management will be the decisive factor in the Sprint and the main race. Fans are now waiting to see if Martin's adrenaline-fueled heroics can halt Marquez's charge under the Qatar night sky.
