Jack Wolff, son of Mercedes Formula 1 Team Principal Toto Wolff, has walked away unscathed after suffering a dramatic and frightening crash during a high-stakes karting race in Italy.
The nine-year-old racing driver was actively competing in the competitive IAME Warriors Final held at the Leopard Circuit located in Viterbo, Italy, among a massive grid of 361 participants throughout the weekend. Interestingly, it was at this exact same circuit that the young Wolff claimed his maiden motorsport title just last month during the final round of the IAME Series Italy within the X30 U10 category.
The terrifying incident unfolded on Friday during the final lap of the X30 Mini category action. As Wolff – who races under the KR Motorsport banner – navigated the final stages, he made wheel-to-wheel contact with Moroccan racer Nahyl El Gahoudi, which unfortunately caused the young Austrian driver to spin out in the middle of the track.

Chaos ensued when British racer Dimitar Uzunov, who was closely following right behind the leading duos, was suddenly flung over the top of Wolff's stationary kart. In a dramatic sequence caught on trackside views, Uzunov's kart rolled directly over Wolff's helmet and shoulder. Medical personnel were immediately deployed to the side of the track, where Wolff was seen rolling out of his kart rather than executing a standard climb.
Although safety marshals and medical staff were in attendance immediately, Wolff astonishingly emerged completely unhurt and walked away from the heavy crash without any outside physical assistance. However, as a mandatory safety precaution following the heavy impact, he was taken for minor medical treatment right after the incident occurred.
Despite the harrowing nature of the crash, the resilient Austrian driver immediately expressed his firm intent to return to the tarmac and participate in further racing sessions scheduled for Saturday.
Reflecting on his rapid rise in the sport, Wolff previously gave his very first on-record interview as a budding competitor after securing his breakthrough championship victory last month at the exact same Leopard Circuit venue.
"It was good," he said regarding his title campaign. "We had a lot of wins and some bad races, but in the end we fought well, and we won the championship, so I’m really happy. From the season, I did not know I would win nearly every single round, so I was really surprised that I was up there."
He further emphasized the intense nature of the grassroots championship. "It’s really competitive. There’s a lot of good drivers fighting in the championship, and we came here on the first step. I want to thank my whole team, my mum, my dad, and my whole family for getting me here to race and to win the championship."
Meanwhile, his father Toto Wolff previously opened up in an interview about his young son's obsessive passion for motorsport and karting, admitting that watching his child race brings unique parental anxiety.
"There is nothing else that interests him, it is all about driving, driving a simulator, driving the go-kart," Wolff Snr. explained earlier this year. "If there are four days that he is not driving, he asks: 'When can I drive again, when can I drive again?' When he’s racing, it’s not something that I love. But I can’t change it."
The senior Mercedes boss added that he consciously attempts to manage his expectations regarding his son's long-term career path. "I really try to compartmentalise that because he is nine, it is his first racing season, and he is doing better than my expectations were. He likes it, but he might not like it next year anymore, or in two years, or he might struggle when he gets into juniors. He might struggle when he gets into cars; he may not, and I think judging a nine-year-old’s possible career trajectory is not too early. That is what I am thinking, what Susie Wolff is thinking, and..."
