The second free practice session for the 2026 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas once again belonged to Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque driver reinforced his strong form after topping the timesheets in FP1, showcasing impressive pace aboard his Ferrari challenger around the demanding Austin venue.
Competition at the sharp end of the field proved intensely close under the Texas sun. Andrea Kimi Antonelli delivered a stellar performance for Mercedes, finishing just four hundredths of a second adrift of the benchmark time to claim second place and turn heads throughout the paddock.
Meanwhile, reigning world champion Max Verstappen had to settle for third position behind the wheel of his Red Bull. The Dutchman finished nearly two tenths down on Leclerc's pace. Right behind Verstappen, Leclerc's teammate Lewis Hamilton rounded out a highly competitive top four for the Scuderia.

Further down the top ten order, George Russell slotted into fifth for Mercedes. Liam Lawson continued his rich vein of impressive form by securing sixth place ahead of the two McLaren contenders, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri taking seventh and eighth respectively.
This practice running provided crucial data regarding aerodynamic setups and tyre management ahead of the competitive sessions. As reported by Motorsport Week, the midfield battle also saw Williams spending a significant portion of the session restricted to the garage while their rivals maximized crucial track time.
