The 2026 Australian Grand Prix practice session delivered high drama featuring two red flags, with Marco Bezzecchi ultimately claiming the top spot to secure a direct and safe passage into Q2 at Phillip Island. The Italian rider posted a benchmark lap time of 1 minute 26.775 seconds by the time the checkered flag waved.
Bezzecchi's path to the top of the timesheets was far from straightforward. He brushed off an early collision with Alex Marquez at Turn 4, an incident that briefly brought out the red flags. Despite the early disruption, the Aprilia rider quickly refocused to master the demanding layout and lead the field.
Aprilia's strong day was further underlined by stablemate Raul Fernandez, who finished right behind him in second place. The Trackhouse rider put in an exceptional performance despite still carrying a lingering hand injury following a previous collision in Indonesia, cementing a stellar session for the manufacturer from Noale.

Meanwhile, Ducati turned heads in the pitlane on Friday afternoon by debuting innovative swingarm wings similar to those originally pioneered by their rivals. In terms of outright pace, Marc Marquez managed to secure third place on the factory Ducati, setting an identical lap time to impressive sophomore Ai Ogura aboard the second Trackhouse machine.
At the other end of the spectrum, major trouble unfolded for the factory Ducati squad as Francesco Bagnaia struggled heavily with rear grip and overall feeling. Failing to crack the top ten, the Italian rider finished down in 14th position, meaning he must fight his way through the treacherous Q1 elimination session.
