The FIA World Endurance Championship paddock is set to witness a deeply emotional tribute as WRT and BMW run a special livery on their #32 LMGT3 machine at the iconic Autodromo Nazionale Monza. The striking design serves as a heartfelt homage to legendary Italian racing driver Alex Zanardi, who passed away at the age of 59 following a long and courageous battle against severe injuries sustained in a 2020 handbike accident.

The creative spark behind this commemorative design originated from BMW factory driver Augusto Farfus, who shared a rich history as Zanardi's teammate in the WTCC and competed alongside him at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2019. When the Monza round was confirmed for the WEC calendar, Farfus immediately proposed the tribute concept to his Bronze-rated teammate Darren Leung, initiating a deeply inspiring project for the LMGT3 crew.

Darren Leung admitted that after discussing the idea with Farfus, he immersed himself in documentaries detailing Zanardi's remarkable life story. He described the Italian as an incredibly inspiring figure whose resilience and unwavering positive mindset in the face of life-altering adversity left a profound impact on him and the entire crew, transforming the livery project into a true labor of love for everyone involved.

Augusto Farfus added that Zanardi was entirely unique in every possible aspect, standing out as a supreme fighter, athlete, and inspiration. The Brazilian veteran emphasized that paying tribute to his former teammate on home soil in Monza is something Zanardi would have cherished deeply, cementing his enduring legacy within the motorsport community.
