Volvo EX60 Electric SUV Production Hurdles and 2026 Outlook

Swedish manufacturer Volvo is encountering major hurdles during the initial assembly phase of its latest all-electric utility vehicle. According to recent reports, the manufacturing process has proven significantly more complicated than initially anticipated due to the implementation of advanced technologies on the factory floor.

To date, the company has recorded massive market enthusiasm with over 50.000 orders secured from global consumers. Nevertheless, the production facilities have only managed to build roughly 5.000 units since the assembly line officially started rolling back in April.

Chief Executive Hakan Samuelsson warned that the positive financial contribution from the model will arrive later than originally scheduled. This delay in volume ramp-up follows the company's recent third-quarter financial loss exceeding 330 million euros, alongside restructuring plans aimed at restoring overall profitability.

The primary manufacturing bottleneck centers around the complexity of integrating the SPA3 platform alongside the automated assembly of battery cells integrated directly into the vehicle's underbody. Management emphasized that the mega-casting technology has caused no issues whatsoever, and the delay is entirely unrelated to the software glitches encountered by the EX90 model previously.

As part of its long-term expansion strategy, the company also plans to introduce a more accessible electric model based on the SPA3 platform scheduled to debut next autumn. Read our in-depth analysis on global automotive developments and latest technology updates right here on Sportrik Media.
