David Reynolds made the bold strategic move to pit early on Lap 9, plunging his Team 18 Chevrolet Camaro into clean air to escape the chaotic pack visibility.
It was a masterstroke that paid handsome dividends for the Supercars veteran, who relentlessly climbed 12 positions to second place following the opening round of pit stops.
The surge was fuelled by vastly superior visibility and a remarkably well-handling machine that thrived in the tricky wet conditions.

Reynolds only dropped a single position thereafter, falling in behind Matt Payne after the second cycle of stops.
However, the driver of the #48 Camaro received a massive reprieve when a rival was penalized five seconds for excessive kerb usage.
The penalty thrust Reynolds right back into contention for the runner-up spot, which he aggressively defended until the checkered flag.
"At the start it was like whitewash, I couldn’t see anything," Reynolds reflected after the race.
"We took the early stop to get some clean air so I could actually see where I was going."
"My car was good so I made a lot of spots there. At the end there I was just hanging on for dear life, hitting every fence, trying to bounce off all the walls."
He also paid tribute to race winner Chaz Mostert for his unrivaled pace throughout the afternoon.
"It was a great race. Chaz was super fast. I don’t know how I could match that pace."
The remarkable result marked Reynolds' first trip to the podium since his memorable 2023 Gold Coast 500 victory.
