The fierce competition in touring car racing is heating up following the confirmation of a top Australian talent joining the TA2 grid. This strategic move is designed to secure vital track knowledge ahead of future championship rounds, ensuring maximum preparedness for upcoming rounds on the calendar.
Driver Hughes, who recently linked up with Erebus Motorsport, emphasized that racing at Taupo provides an unmatched opportunity to gather critical data. Having stepped away from his final commitments at Sandown, he aims to build momentum alongside fellow competitor Tyler Cheney who is set for a full campaign in New Zealand.
"With Taupo being on the Supercars calendar, it is a good opportunity to get my first laps around the circuit and hopefully be able to use that experience next year," Hughes stated regarding his primary motivation for the weekend.

He noted that competitive race meetings offer far superior learning curves compared to standard private test days, allowing drivers to master braking markers, overtaking zones, and tire management under pressure.
"Any time you can get on track is valuable, especially when it is a race meeting instead of a test day. The more time you spend learning reference points, the better," he explained.
Addressing the mechanical differences, Hughes acknowledged the technological gap between standard TA2 machinery and the highly sophisticated engineering found within the premier Supercars category.
"Although they are both Camaros, the Supercar is a completely different animal. There is a lot more technology, engineering, and different systems involved, but at the end of the day, we drive on the same track," he concluded.
