Ross Brawn has made a surprising move into MotoGP after officially joining Pramac Racing as a member of its board of directors. The legendary Formula 1 figure will take on a non-executive role while serving as an advisor to Pramac team principal Paolo Campinoti as the Italian outfit continues its long-term development strategy.
Brawn's appointment represents one of the most significant management additions to the MotoGP paddock in recent years. Across almost four decades in Formula 1, the British engineer and executive established himself as one of the most successful technical and strategic leaders in the history of the sport.
His career included key roles with Benetton, Ferrari, Honda, Brawn GP and Mercedes. Between 1991 and 2013, Brawn played a central role in securing 11 constructors' championships and 11 drivers' titles, cementing his reputation as one of Formula 1's most influential figures.

After stepping away from Mercedes in 2013, Brawn spent several years outside the sport before returning in 2017 as Formula 1's Managing Director of Motorsports. In that position, he became one of the leading architects of the championship's modern regulatory direction before retiring once again at the conclusion of the 2022 season.
His arrival in MotoGP highlights the increasingly close relationship between the world's premier four-wheel and two-wheel racing championships. As MotoGP continues to evolve commercially and technically, several high-profile figures from Formula 1 have begun taking active roles within motorcycle racing organisations.
"Motorsport has always been about people, teamwork and continuous improvement, and I look forward to supporting Paolo and the team and contributing where my experience may be useful. Pramac has built an impressive organisation with a strong spirit and ambition, and I'm excited to be part of its future," Brawn said in the official announcement.
From a strategic perspective, Brawn's experience could provide substantial value to Pramac. The team, which now forms a key part of Yamaha's MotoGP project, is seeking to strengthen its organisational structure as it aims to become an even stronger force at the front of the championship. Brawn's proven track record in building championship-winning operations and overseeing major transformation projects is expected to play an important role.
Campinoti revealed that his relationship with Brawn extends back many years, making the appointment both a professional and personal milestone for the team owner. He believes Brawn's experience and leadership philosophy will accelerate Pramac's ongoing growth.
"Beyond his extraordinary Formula 1 career and achievements, Ross is someone with whom I have shared a friendship and a relationship of great respect for many years. I believe that his vision, knowledge and winning mentality will make a valuable contribution to the continued growth and development of Pramac Racing," Campinoti said.
Brawn becomes the second prominent Formula 1 figure to join a MotoGP team this year. Earlier in 2026, former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner was appointed CEO of Red Bull KTM Tech3. The trend underlines MotoGP's growing appeal to elite motorsport executives and reflects the increasingly sophisticated competition taking place behind the scenes as the championship prepares for its next phase of evolution.
