WRC: New Candidate Emerges to Replace Saudi Rally

Uncertainty over Rally Saudi Arabia has brought a new name into the frame. According to Autohebdo, if the Jeddah round scheduled for November is cancelled, the WRC could end its season at Rally Six Cities Portugal, a gravel event that also serves as the ERC finale on 23-25 October.

The issue came to the fore after security concerns in the Middle East raised doubts. The FIA has yet to give a definitive answer when asked by media at Rally Finland in late July. They only stated a decision would be made by mid-September.

If the Saudi round is indeed cancelled, there are two options: find a replacement or end the season early at Rally Sardinia in early October. However, speculation continues to grow, and Portugal is now emerging as a strong candidate.

Rally Six Cities is based in Fafe, a region already familiar to WRC fans. The legendary Fafe jump and corners have always been a huge draw, attracting thousands of spectators each year. Hosting the finale there would certainly provide a dramatic spectacle.

Earlier, Spanish media also mentioned Rally Catalunya and a gravel event around Granada as potential replacements. But the Portuguese option seems to be gaining traction due to logistical readiness and incredible fan support.

The final decision rests with the FIA. What is clear is that the paddock is waiting with bated breath—whether this season will end in Jeddah, Sardinia, or on the passionate gravel roads of Portugal.
