Lando Norris is in the form of his life this season, yet he still trails Kimi Antonelli by 83 points at the top of the standings. Back-to-back wins in Hungary and the Netherlands have boosted his confidence, but mathematics remains his biggest rival.
Norris, now fourth in the championship, has scored the most points over the last six races. However, to snatch the title from Antonelli, winning alone won't be enough. If Antonelli finishes second every time, the Mercedes driver will still keep the title safe.
This is where Norris needs 'help' from fellow Britons, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton. They need to slip between Norris and Antonelli, causing Antonelli to lose more points.
But there's another uncertainty: the number of races left could change. If Qatar and Abu Dhabi are canceled, and only Imola is added, Norris would have just 10 chances. That makes his mission even harder, though not impossible.
McLaren continues to show significant progress, especially in technical areas. Norris is optimistic he can win every remaining round. But until the season ends, he depends on others' results. An irony for a defending champion who usually controls his own destiny.
