Fabio Quartararo and Yamaha successfully broke back into the Grand Prix top ten finish during Sunday’s Indonesian MotoGP race at the Mandalika circuit.

Competitive for the majority of the weekend, the French rider maintained consistent lap times throughout the grand prix as he worked his way forward from twelfth place on the starting grid.

Quartararo successfully matched the pace of the leading Aprilia machines in the closing laps while hunting down the struggling Ducati rider, Fabio di Giannantonio.

Although he ultimately crossed the finish line just 0.159 seconds behind the Italian in ninth position, this marked his best Grand Prix result since finishing seventh at the German GP in July.

“I’m really happy with the race,” Quartararo said. “I was struggling a lot the first five laps, but I could maintain my position, and I think it was quite a great result.”

He added that the demanding physical conditions did not stop him from pushing to the limit until the checkered flag dropped. “It was hot, it was physical, but I pushed until the end because I saw Diggia was struggling.”

“I missed one lap more to pass him, but also in the last five laps I destroyed my tyres,” explained the 2021 MotoGP champion, who is now facing his final five rounds with Yamaha before his transition to Honda.

Meanwhile, his Monster Energy Yamaha team-mate, Alex Rins, struggled further down the order with inconsistent engine braking and traction control issues, finishing six places behind.

Monster Yamaha team principal Massimo Meregalli praised the rider's relentless effort, noting that his ability to make progress through the field highlighted the competitive race pace of the M1 machine.
