The Moto2 weekend at Lusail International Circuit delivered major drama after race stewards issued multiple grid penalties following a chaotic qualifying session. The intense world championship battle between points leader Manuel Gonzalez and his title rival Izan Guevara took a dramatic turn once the official sanctions were officially announced.
Earlier, the battle for pole position had kept the paddock on edge with fractions of a second separating the front-runners. Gonzalez initially fought through traffic to secure a promising grid spot, while his Pramac rival tried to capitalize on slipstream tactics. However, the turning point arrived when a large pack of riders slowed down significantly on the racing line, inadvertently blocking Daniel Munoz during his flying lap.
The FIM stewards quickly intervened, ruling that the slow riding infraction violated safety protocols. Consequently, the governing body slapped the entire group with a mandatory three-place grid penalty. This decision dropped Manuel Gonzalez from his original second place down to fifth on the starting grid, while Izan Guevara slipped back to tenth position.

The cascading penalties completely reshuffled the mid-pack and front rows. Riders such as Senna Agius, Barry Baltus, and Adrian Huertas all saw their starting slots altered. Meanwhile, Celestino Vietti emerged as the biggest beneficiary of the chaotic session, inheriting a valuable spot on the front row in third place.
With championship margins razor-thin at this stage of the season, the revised starting grid adds an extra layer of strategic tension. Both title contenders now face an uphill battle from further down the order as they prepare for a crucial showdown under the floodlights.
