Collin Veijer is set to launch from an advantageous position on the second row for the upcoming Moto2 race at the Lusail International Circuit. The Dutch rider originally clocked the fifth-fastest time during a intensely contested qualifying session, but inherited the fourth starting slot following a grid penalty imposed on a rival competitor ahead of the Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Qatar.

Saturday's track action presented distinct technical hurdles for the Red Bull KTM Ajo hopeful. During the second free practice session under a blistering 45-degree asphalt temperature, the team experimented with various chassis adjustments and geometry settings. Not all modifications yielded the expected mechanical grip, leaving him fifteenth overall with a lap time of 1’57.043, though the timesheets remained incredibly tight with 23 riders separated by less than a second.

As ambient temperatures dropped and track asphalt cooled to 33 degrees Celsius for qualifying, performance gains immediately unlocked. Veijer wasted no time in Q2, posting a competitive banker lap during his initial run to establish himself firmly within the fight for the front rows. His subsequent second run saw a massive leap in pace, stopping the clock at 1’55.579—nearly a full second faster than his Friday benchmark.

Reflecting on his Saturday progression, the young talent emphasized his confidence regarding race pace over distance. "It was not a bad Saturday overall. This morning did not go entirely as we hoped because we tried different setting adjustments that ultimately did not change much of my feeling on the bike. Fortunately, our pace on used tires felt strong and positive for tomorrow's race," Veijer stated.

Looking ahead to the strategy for the 18-lap encounter, he concluded, "The qualifying went very well. We managed to put together two solid runs, with the second one being particularly strong. Starting from fourth position gives us a great platform. Now we will analyze everything with the team to determine the best strategy for Sunday's battle."
