MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Marc Marquez has stated that MotoGP will remain a part of his life after retirement, although he has not yet considered becoming a team owner in the future. The reigning world champion addressed the topic during the 2026 MotoGP season opener at the Buriram circuit in Thailand.
The Ducati rider was asked about his long-term plans beyond his racing career, particularly as discussions around team ownership have increased following the arrival of Liberty Media as the commercial rights holder of MotoGP.
In recent months, several high-profile figures from other areas of motorsport have been linked with potential investments in MotoGP teams. Formula 1 drivers such as Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen have been mentioned in discussions surrounding possible team ownership in the championship’s new commercial era.

So far, the only confirmed ownership change has involved the Tech3 team, which was sold to a consortium led by former Formula 1 team principal Guenther Steiner.
When asked whether owning a MotoGP team could become part of his own future, Marquez made clear that his focus remains entirely on racing for now.
“At the moment, no, because I’m fully focused on riding,” Marquez said.
“If you’re a rider, your life is fully focused on riding.”
However, the Spanish rider did not rule out the possibility of taking on a different role in MotoGP after the end of his competitive career.
“In the future, you never know.”
“I will finish my career sooner or later, and then I will decide.”
“But I know that MotoGP and motorcycles are part of my life and will remain a part of my life.”
Several teams currently competing in MotoGP are already owned by former grand prix riders. The VR46 Racing Team is owned by MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi, while LCR Honda is run by former rider Lucio Cecchinello.
Another example is Gresini Racing, where Marquez competed alongside his brother Alex Marquez during the 2024 season. The team was founded by the late Fausto Gresini and is now owned by his wife Nadia Padovani.
While Marquez remains fully committed to his current racing career, his comments suggest that MotoGP will continue to play a significant role in his life even after he eventually steps away from the grid.
