Ai Ogura will undergo a radiological check on Tuesday to assess his injured left thumb, hoping to get the green light to race at the San Marino MotoGP next weekend. The Japanese rider missed the Aragon round after fracturing the thumb during a motocross practice session.
Ogura underwent surgery on 27 August in Barcelona, performed by Dr. Xavier Mir's team. They will evaluate his recovery alongside Trackhouse before deciding whether he can travel to Misano. Even if cleared, he will face another examination on Thursday with MotoGP Medical Director Dr. Angel Charte.
Championship Implications and the Importance of Misano
Currently fifth in the standings with 203 points, Ogura trails leader Jorge Martin by 53 points. At the summer break, he was second, just 14 points behind. However, a crash at Silverstone and a missed Aragon GP have seen him slip down the order.
His return at Misano is vital for keeping his title hopes alive in his sophomore MotoGP season. He has been overtaken by Marc Marquez, Marco Bezzecchi, and Fabio Di Giannantonio in recent races. If Ogura is unable to ride, Trackhouse will draft in Aprilia test rider Lorenzo Savadori as his replacement, as they did in Aragon.
Since his operation, Ogura has been resting and rehabilitating. Tuesday's visit to the Dexeus Clinic is the first hurdle to clear before he can fly to Misano. With the championship battle heating up, every point matters for the Japanese rider as he aims to stay in contention at the sharp end of the field.
