MotoGP champion Marc Marquez has revealed the surprising extent of his ongoing right shoulder problems, admitting he must be very careful how he sleeps and sees a physiotherapist more than he would like. The Ducati rider has been battling the issue since a crash in 2020.
The eight-time world champion suffered a badly broken right humerus at the Spanish Grand Prix in 2020, requiring four major operations over two years. He then fractured the same shoulder in a collision at the Indonesian Grand Prix in October 2025, just days after clinching his eighth title, complicating his recovery.
That injury hampered him early in the 2026 season, with an undiagnosed nerve issue adding to his struggles. After further surgery in May, Marquez has since won three grands prix and cut a 102-point deficit down to just 40 points ahead of this weekend's Aragon round.

In an interview with the I Paper, Marquez opened up about the limitations he faces in daily life. “I have some limitations, but luckily, I can adapt my riding style and be competitive at the moment,” he said. “Not as I would like, because I feel I can do more. But enough to fight for the top.”
He added: “In daily life, I don't have many physical limitations if I take care of it in the correct way. I go to the physiotherapist more than I would like. But that's the only way to have a normal life. I need to be very careful to sleep on my left side or on my back at night.”
Marquez also revealed he has given up playing padel with his right arm, and his attempt to switch to his left proved impossible. His struggles were evident at Silverstone, where he scored just 10 points across both races, with a behind-the-scenes Ducati video showing he had “no control” over his arm during the grand prix.
Despite the physical challenges, Marquez remains committed to MotoGP until at least 2028 after signing a new two-year deal with Ducati. His resilience continues to define his season as he chases another title.
