Liam Lawson praised the aggressive approach taken by Racing Bulls after another strong Friday at the 2026 British Grand Prix. The New Zealander will start the Sprint from ninth after reaching the top 10 in Sprint Qualifying at Silverstone Circuit.

Lawson first completed practice in 10th before improving by one position in Sprint Qualifying. He finished directly ahead of team-mate Arvid Lindblad, giving Racing Bulls two cars in a competitive position for Saturday’s shorter race.

“The car is really good. It has been good all day. Honestly, we have barely changed anything, and that has been something really positive for us recently,” Lawson said.

“We have come to these weekends being quite aggressive, and it has been working. So, it is a good starting position for tomorrow,” he added.

The performance reinforces Lawson’s position as one of the more consistent midfield drivers of the 2026 season. After eight rounds, he sits 10th in the drivers’ championship with 30 points, while Racing Bulls is sixth in the constructors’ standings on 44 points.

Silverstone also created a significant technical challenge, particularly around energy management under the 2026 power unit regulations. In cooler conditions, drivers needed electrical energy to help bring the tyres into the right temperature window while still preserving enough deployment for the start of a push lap.

“It is definitely tough. It was not super warm today, so you actually need the energy to put temperature into the tyres, but you obviously cannot spend too much because you need enough to start your lap,” Lawson said.

“Then through the lap, as we are getting faster, we are also running out of energy. So, Silverstone has been very different compared to some of the previous tracks,” he added.

Despite starting ninth, Lawson admitted Sprint points will be difficult if the eight drivers from the leading four teams finish without problems. Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull still appear to hold a long-run pace advantage over Racing Bulls.

“If they all finish, probably not, which sucks. But I will try; we will try to get a good start and see where we can get in the first few corners,” Lawson said.

Racing Bulls’ focus is therefore not limited to the Sprint, with main qualifying and Sunday’s Grand Prix still central to the weekend. Ninth place gives Lawson an opportunity to attack early, but the realistic target remains protecting the team’s position as a leading midfield force while waiting for any opportunity from the cars ahead.
