A dramatic wet qualifying session at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace Interlagos left Liam Lawson with a mixture of relief and lingering frustration. The talented New Zealander starred once again by punching his ticket into Q3 and securing a strong third-place grid start, aided by post-session penalties applied to rival drivers. However, the Racing Bulls charger openly admitted he was far from fully satisfied with the outcome, firmly believing his machine possessed the raw pace to fight directly on the front row.
As heavy rain threatened the closing stages of the final qualifying segment, track position and early lap times became absolute priorities. Lawson was among the first drivers to filter out onto the asphalt, slotting in right behind veteran competitor Fernando Alonso. Unfortunately, traffic on his out-lap hampered his rhythm, forcing him to abort a crucial flying lap just as weather conditions worsened dramatically across the circuit.
Reflecting on the session in the media pen, the young charger made no excuses for the minor operational errors that kept him from challenging higher up the order. "I think as a driver you want to maximise it and I feel like we didn't quite today," he explained to reporters. He noted that catching the Aston Martin ahead too closely on his initial push lap compromised his ability to fully extract the car's ultimate single-lap performance before the heavy downpour arrived.

Lawson finished just 0.226 seconds shy of the benchmark set by Kimi Antonelli, with a clean run potentially handing him a front-row start following grid drops for competitors ahead. While he inherits a favourable starting slot on Sunday due to penalties, the competitive driver insisted that leaving potential on the table is always a bitter pill to swallow for someone fighting to prove his long-term value in the paddock.

Looking ahead to the upcoming grand prix where mixed weather conditions remain heavily anticipated, Lawson remains confident in his race pace. The Faenza-based outfit has demonstrated strong competitiveness across varying grip levels throughout the weekend. As speculation regarding his future seat continues to swirl, turning strong grid positions into solid race points remains the primary objective for the rising star.
