A challenging weekend continued for Oscar Piastri as he suffered a frustrating Q2 elimination during a rain-soaked qualifying session at the Interlagos circuit. The Australian driver could only manage 12th place on the grid, repeating a similar setback from a week prior in Mexico City. This marks the first time Piastri has failed to reach Q3 at consecutive Grands Prix since the 2023 Monaco Grand Prix, highlighting an unusual slump in his otherwise stellar Formula 1 form.
While changing track conditions caught out several drivers, teammate Lando Norris mastered the treacherous asphalt to claim his third consecutive pole position in Brazil. In contrast, Piastri was left grappling with McLaren's timing when swapping from full wet tyres to intermediates as the circuit gradually began to dry out during the second segment of qualifying.
Reflecting on the decisive moments of the session, the young charger explained that the team pulled the trigger a bit too late on the slicker treaded rubber. "I had just finished a lap, but I think we probably went onto the inters a little bit too late and needed that extra lap or two to really get some temperature in them," Piastri stated when speaking to reporters in the paddock.

He further admitted that certain racing lines utilized on the wet compound failed to translate effectively onto the intermediates, adding to his lap-time deficit. A minor moment entering the main straight further compromised his final push before a red flag caused by rookie Rafael Camara at Turn 12 abruptly ended the session. Though denied a final flying lap, Piastri refused to lean heavily on the stoppage as an excuse.
Despite qualifying down in 12th, the McLaren racer is set to inherit a minor boost on the starting grid, moving up to 10th following grid penalties applied to Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. With unpredictable weather forecasted for Sunday's Grand Prix, Piastri faces an uphill battle to slice through the competitive midfield pack.
