Joan Mir will miss the Japanese and Indonesian MotoGP rounds after Honda confirmed that an illness affecting his energy for several months requires further medical evaluation and recovery. Mir already missed the Austrian Grand Prix after reporting that his energy level had fallen to around 50 percent during the San Marino Grand Prix.
MotoGP Chief Medical Officer Angel Charte said Mir had been experiencing several symptoms affecting his energy and performance for months, with the condition recently becoming more severe. The cause remains unconfirmed, while Mir is undergoing a series of tests at Dexeus University Hospital in an effort to reach a definitive diagnosis.
“Joan Mir has been experiencing a variety of symptoms impacting his energy and performance for several months with a recent increase in severity, the cause is still unconfirmed at this time,” Angel Charte said.

On medical advice, Mir has been instructed to observe strict rest and undergo various treatments for 15 days. Charte subsequently advised the Honda rider against competing in the Japanese and Indonesian Grands Prix, with his condition set to remain under close medical monitoring.
“Consequently, I have advised him against participating in the Japanese and Indonesian Grands Prix. His condition will continue to be closely monitored by my team,” Charte said.
Honda previously replaced Mir with Takaaki Nakagami in Austria. Nakagami is also scheduled to make a wildcard appearance at Motegi and had previously ridden Honda's 1,000cc RC213V at the Japanese circuit as preparation. The programme is particularly relevant because 1,000cc MotoGP wildcard entries will no longer be permitted from 2027.
Honda has two other potential options to replace Mir, with Aleix Espargaro and Cal Crutchlow identified as possible candidates. Espargaro recently returned to testing after recovering from an injury sustained in a Sepang crash, while Crutchlow has raced several times for LCR Honda this season when Johann Zarco was sidelined through injury.
Mir's absence leaves Honda needing to determine its replacement line-up for the opening two rounds of the Asian tour, beginning with the Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi on 2–4 October before the championship moves on to Indonesia.
